We’ll answer any questions you might have and help put your mind at ease before your pet undergoes surgery. We know that your pet is an important part of your family - we’ll treat them like they’re part of our own.
Spay & Neuter Services
At North Davidson, spay and neuter surgeries are one of the most common procedures we perform. This routine surgery can be one of the best things that you can do for your pet’s overall health, happiness, and longevity.
Benefits of spaying or neutering your pet include:
- No unexpected pregnancies
- Longer lifespan for female pets
- Reduced chance of testicular cancer or prostate issues
- Female pets won’t go into heat
- Male pets may be better behaved or less prone to wandering
One of the other benefits not listed above is that spaying or neutering your pet can help reduce the overpopulation of stray animals in the country. Caring for an unexpected litter of puppies or kittens can be overwhelming and costly. If you don’t plan to breed your pet, spaying or neutering them can be a huge benefit to their overall health.
Recovering from Surgery Safely & Quickly
While the surgery itself is essential to your pet’s health, the recovery process is just as important. With proper post-operative care, your pet will be back on all fours in no time. Our goal at North Davidson is to help your pets stay comfortable throughout their healing process. Our Lexington veterinary team will make sure that you understand how to properly care for your pet so that they heal quickly and correctly.
Help your pet recover quickly with these tips:
- Give your pet a quiet space inside to rest
- Avoid activities like running or jumping
- Keep the incision area dry and clean
- Inspect the incision regularly
- Prevent your pet from scratching or licking the incision by ensuring they wear the provided E-Collar for two weeks following surgery
In addition to the list above, keep an eye out for signs of infection. If your pet is suddenly lethargic or not eating, or if you notice any redness or swelling around the incision, please give us a call right away so that we can help get your pet back on track.
