Wellness Care at North Davidson
It is essential for your pet’s ongoing wellbeing that they have regular checkups. We recommend that you bring your pet in to see us at least annually. This helps us keep track of your pet’s health and monitor trends or changes to their health. This can also help us identify the early signs of health issues before they devolve into serious health problems.
As your pet’s favorite person, you know your pet best. If you’ve noticed any changes in your pet’s health or behavior, let us know when you bring them in to see us. It’s helpful for us to know these things so that we can more closely examine what might be causing these issues.
Along with a full physical exam, your pet’s wellness exam will include laboratory testing, including bloodwork. These tests are essential to creating a full picture of your pet’s health. Bloodwork can tell us many things about your pet that we wouldn’t be able to see with the naked eye. Because we offer a lab on-site, you’ll receive your pet’s results much more quickly than other clinics that don’t have these capabilities.
Preventing Parvo: What You Should Know
One of the things that we take pride in at North Davidson is our preventative care. We offer a broad range of preventative treatments for parasites and communicable diseases. Make sure your pet is up to date on their vaccines the next time you visit us!
One disease in particular, parvo virus, is highly contagious among dogs. We offer comprehensive parvo virus treatment at North Davidson. Parvo virus causes an infectious gastrointestinal illness in puppies and young dogs, which can devolve quickly into a fatal condition.
Symptoms of parvo virus include:
- Lack of appetite
- Severe, bloody diarrhea
- Weight loss
If you notice these symptoms in your dog, bring them in to see us right away. Because this disease moves so quickly, it’s important that you seek medical care right away.
Treatment for parvo may include hospitalization in an isolated area and administration of a series of medication to combat the virus. We’ll provide support in the form of fluids and nutrition as well.
Fortunately, you can help prevent parvo virus with vaccinations. Young puppies will receive a series of three vaccinations by the time they are 16 weeks old, and a booster shot is given one year later. Keep your pet safe by staying on top of their vaccines!
